Starting school is an exciting milestone for both children and their families. At Hadley Wood Primary School, we are delighted to welcome your child to our Reception class—the very first step on their primary school journey.

We understand how important your child’s first year at school is for building a love of learning and confidence. In Reception, our caring and experienced team are dedicated to ensuring your child feels safe, happy, and eager to explore every day.

Children in Reception learn through a rich mix of play, games, and engaging activities, all designed around the seven areas of learning and development in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS):

• Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
• Communication and Language
• Literacy
• Mathematical Development
• Physical Development
• Expressive Arts and Design
• Understanding the World

Our approach helps children develop important skills such as independence, making friends, building routines, and discovering the joy of reading—setting strong foundations for their future learning.

We know that you are your child’s first and most important teacher which is why we value close communication and partnership with parents and carers. Throughout the year, we will share your child’s individual achievements and next steps, celebrating every milestone together. There will be various opportunities for you to get involved in your child’s learning journey and we are there every step of the way to support you.

Our goal is to make Reception a year filled with happy memories, friendships, and rich learning experiences. We want every child to love coming to school, feel proud of their progress, and be well-prepared for the move into Year 1.
