Year 6—Turing Class

Welcome to Turing Class

Age: 10-11

Teaching Team: Mrs Christophorou. Support Staff: Ms. McMullen

We feel that Year 6 is an important and exciting year for our pupils, where it is a pleasure to watch them continue to mature in preparation for their next phase of their education – secondary school.

Year 6 is an extremely busy year group. We work hard to deepen our knowledge and understanding in the core subjects – mathematics, English and science. There are lots of exciting units of work to look forward to including The Great War, WW2, Fairtrade and a very magical Harry Potter unit! We also read some great books as a class; Goodnight Mr Tom and Kensuke’s Kingdom are firm favourites.

The Year 6 team are keen and eager to ensure that the final year here at Hadley Wood is a productive and successful one for everyone. We aim to provide a learning environment where all children feel valued and are supported in order for them to reach their full potential. Our priority is for children to leave Year 6 with a range of skills, tools and experiences to allow them to be prepared to continue to develop their talents and interests at secondary school.

Together, we will face a number of challenges including preparing for SATs and the exciting transition to secondary school. However, it is not all revision, revision, revision … In our wider curriculum lessons we sculpt a World War 1 model soldier, design and sew a cushion, plan and cook a recipe using Fairtrade products and even create our own silk paintings!

We also plan to visit Harry Potter World, Bletchley Park and of course there is the much anticipated and well-earned trip to PGL.

It is going to be a wonderful year!
